In a close door meeting held by The Vice President of Liberia, Chief Dr. Madam Jewel Howard-Taylor and the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo. The Vice President Howard-Taylor highlighted youth empowerment as a critical need for development in Liberia.
In meeting she said
“Whenever I go out I, on behalf of the Liberian Government, seek supports that will help the Liberian youths. That’s our contribution towards our Government’s ‘Pro-Poor Agenda’. That is my priority, helping President Weah in getting supports that will help provide empowerment for the youths, including skills training programs and agricultural programs”, she told Vice President Osinbajo.
“We need to put our less-engaged young people into vocational institutions, and reactivate the various cooperative agricultural programs in the rural parts of Liberia where our young people will be fully engaged”,
The meeting between the two Vice Presidents was held at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday, April 23, 2018.
The Liberian Vice President had earlier over the weekend told hundreds of women at an international women summit in Abuja to take advantage of technology which makes life easier to manage if people have access to it.
According to her
“Technology offers a viable outstanding pathway through which we can leverage the opportunities of today to inspire the promise of tomorow and create a future deserving of the children of the African Continent. To do this, the children of Africa need ‘Knowledge, Innovation, Technology (KIT).’ For there is no doubt in our minds that – Innovation is only driven by knowledge.”
In response, Vice President Osinbajo thanked Vice President Howard-Taylor for paying him a courtesy visit.
He then applauded his Liberian counterpart’s desire to see young Liberians empowered. Vice President Osinbajo particularly pointed out agriculture as an important medium for youth empowerment.
Meanwhile, the Liberian Vice President over the weekend held fruitful discussions with an expert Nigerian agriculturist.
During the meeting, the Vice President, expressed interest in helping to make Liberia realize its full agricultural potentials. These experts stated their willingness to work with the President George Weah lead administration towards achieving that national goal for the post-war country in its recovery and developmental agenda.
Vice President Howard-Taylor, also on behalf of the Liberian Government, thanked her Nigerian counterpart for the country’s warm reception accorded President George Manneh Weah and entourage during his recent two-day state visit to Nigeria.
